Films, food, and family activities await at the former London 2012 Athlete’s Village

LONDON: 3 JUNE 2014

Get Living London, the residential owner and rental management company at East Village - the former Athlete’s Village – has announced a free movie weekend in association with the East End Film Festival (EEFF). The East Village E20 Big Screen will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 June starting at 12pm on both days. The weekend includes special screenings of Jon Favreau’s stellar new comedy ‘Chef’, football documentary The Second Game, Morph-Making workshops, food trucks, family fun and lots more.

Get Living London is sponsoring the festival as part of its ongoing support for the wider East London area. The company behind East Village has a long-standing commitment to the development of the neighbourhood as a new cultural destination and community since its transformation from the Athletes’ Village post-Olympics. Now home to almost 500 residents, the offshoots of a thriving community is taking shape. There’s also a world of entertainment, history and leisure on residents’ doorsteps, from Westfield – the biggest urban shopping centre in Europe – to the world-class Olympic sporting facilities and canal side cafes, boutique galleries and some amazing restaurants. Residents and visitors alike are also anticipating the opening of 30 new shops, cafés and bars later in the year.

To tie-in with England’s first World Cup game, Saturday 14 June will be football focused, with a special screening of Romanian football documentary The Second Game (dir: Corneliu Porumboiu, Romania), followed by more football-themed films from Copa90. Younger film fans can enjoy a free workshop with Aardman Animations, the film and television company behind Wallace & Gromit. The Morph-making workshops will help kids and parents to make their own version of one of Britain’s most beloved animated characters. All materials are provided and the fun and accessible workshop is open to all ages and abilities.

Sunday 15 June will see an exclusive screening of Jon Favreau’s latest star-studded feature Chef ahead of its UK theatrical release. Co-starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sofía Vergara, Dustin Hoffman and John Leguizamo, it tells of a father pulling his estranged family back together as he goes through a career transition from restaurateur to food truck owner – it’s a perfect fit for Fathers Day which falls on Sunday too.
