Local artistic talent comes to East Village

Get Living London is introducing a taste of London’s East End artistic talent to the residents of its privately rented homes.

In partnership with Hackney Wick Fish Island Cultural Interest Group, Stratford Rising and Hackney WickED, 72 local artworks will be installed in the atriums of 31 of the residential buildings.

The display will showcase pieces by highly regarded artists, such as British born Gavin Turk, an international artist based in Hackney Wick, as well as emerging artists including those from local community groups Rosetta Arts Centre, Together2012! and Bow Arts.

The East End is famed for eclectic culture and this project aims to bring a flavour of the local landscape directly to its residents’ homes. Neil Young, chief executive of Get Living London, commented “We believe that enlivening the communal areas of our homes at East Village with exceptional creativity from the best of East London artists has both a positive effect on the environment and reinforces our desire to link the Get Living London neighbourhood to existing neighbourhoods”.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the general public to visit East Village for an exclusive chance to view selected pieces, during an open day to be held in 2015. Event details and how to register will be released closer to the time.

At the same time, Get Living London have also launched a competition to commission a large scale work of art with a £70,000 budget. Further details and how to enter can be found here.
