Get Living London hosts exclusive art viewing in East Village

Following the unveiling of a public art showcase in the foyers of Get Living London’s private rental homes, Get Living London welcomed members of the public to an exclusive art viewing in East Village E20 on Saturday 7 March. Visitors were given the chance to get up close and personal with a wealth of vibrant local art, and to speak to some of the talent behind it.

Get Living London led guided tours of the art (there are more than 70 on display in total). The loaned works, installed in 31 different residential foyers across East Village, include prominent pieces such as Gavin Turk’s Gold Triple Pop and Sean Raggett’s Queen’s Woods.

During the tours, visitors had the chance to speak directly with the creators of the works, and to learn first-hand about the processes and inspirations behind them. Highly acclaimed artists, including Eleanor Bedlow, Felix Friedmann, Dolores de Sade, Aida, Sean Raggett, Nick Simpson, Neil Weerdmeester and Vanessa Short, were on hand throughout the day to engage with the crowds and to share interesting insights about the process of creating their art.

The tours were rounded-off by a well-deserved trip to East Village’s family pub, ‘Neighbourhood,’ where refreshments were served all afternoon to visitors as they reflected on their privileged glimpse of some of East London’s brightest artistic talent.

The public art showcase formed part of Get Living London’s new and ongoing cultural programme, and was organised in partnership with East London arts organisations Hackney Wick Fish Island Cultural Interest Group, Stratford Rising, Hidden Art and Hackney WickED. The event helped to further integrate the new neighbourhood into the exciting surrounding cultural area.

Chief Executive Neil Young reflected, “Bringing art into the foyers has created a real talking point among residents and we’re delighted to welcome the artists into these conversations.”
