With the Great British Summer now upon us, it is time for interiors to give a subtle nod of support to a home-grown aesthetic by showcasing British designed products. As a nation we have flirted in recent years with all things Scandinavian, thanks to the ever-useful Ikea. However, it has been easy to forget the strength of British designed products and interiors.
Get Living London's appointed acclaimed designers Wayne Hemingway MBE, Gerardine Hemingway MBE and Tilly Hemingway lead the furnishing and interior design for all of the homes and created a series of complimentary furniture packages for those renting the new homes, with a central design ethos to feature the best of British design.
Many of the packages feature key pieces by leading British designers, including Matthew Hilton (Designer of the Year at the 2008 British Design Awards), iconic British heritage brand G Plan, and products from HemingwayDesign's own range. Statement pieces from the G Plan Vintage label, designed by Tilly Hemingway for the iconic British furniture brand, are inspired by the G Plan archive from the 50s and 60s.
Wayne Hemingway explains the importance for East Village of using British designed and produced products for the home: "East Village is a wonderful legacy, the first legacy neighbourhood in fact, to result from London 2012. The Olympics painted Britain in a wonderful light, introducing the world to the best of British, so it was only right to try and furnish the Get Living London homes with a Designed and Made in Britain philosophy. The UK is now widely regarded as the world's most creative nation and there is a wealth of great design to choose from.
